Industrial Designer

Blake Jarrett & Company specializes in helping our customers bring their brand to life in retail. We work with many leading consumer product brands to design and build high quality retail and merchandising solutions. We’re looking for an Industrial Designer with a technical skill set—suited to taking concepts and making them real—to join a collaborative team of young designers and engineers.

You’ll work closely with our Creative Director to create design concepts and turn them into fully functioning products. Our projects are hugely varied, from injection molded merchandising displays up to full retail environments, but we’re not expecting you to know everything.  We are looking for a candidate with the right attitude and a willingness to learn.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Refine concepts with the team and create technical drawings to communicate the design direction to manufacturers.
  • Utilize your good sense of design and understanding of materials and processes to maintain design intent.
  • Implement tools and assembly methods to develop prototypes and validate designs. 
  • Use your strong communication skills to be a responsive team player who can confidently present your design solutions.
  • We’re client driven, so you’ll need to deliver great result in (sometimes) tight timelines.

Requirements:

  • Graduate from an accredited Industrial Design program (or related field).
  • 2+ years of design experience in product development.
  • Must be proficient in SolidWorks (or relatable CAD package) for modeling and producing technical drawings for manufacturing.
  • Ability to do hand sketches on-the-fly to effectively convey design ideas.
  • Experience creating presentations and renderings with Adobe Creative Suite (or related tools).

Assets:

  • Experience in the POP/Retail Environment industry.
  • Experience designing for trades/construction.
  • Experience designing for plastic fabrication and injection molding.

Mechanical Design Engineer

Blake Jarrett & Company specializes in helping our customers bring their brand to life in retail. We are looking for a design-oriented Mechanical Engineer with an eye for aesthetics to join our collaborative team of young designers and engineers.

Working closely with our Director of Engineering, you’ll turn designs created by our talented industrial design team into beautiful functioning products. From concept and prototyping through to mass production, you’ll play an integral role through all stages of design and development. Our projects are hugely varied, from injection molded merchandising displays up to full retail environments, but we’re not expecting you to know everything.  We are looking for a candidate with the right attitude and a willingness to learn.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Take design concepts and using your knowledge of mechanical design, materials, and manufacturing, determine the best way to create and assemble the product while maintaining the original design intent.
  • Create fully detailed parts, assemblies, and BOMs in SolidWorks and generate production-ready drawing packages for quoting and manufacturing.
  • Meticulously document part and drawing revisions for all engineering changes.
  • Implement tools and assembly methods to develop prototypes and validate designs.  Make necessary engineering revisions to optimize designs. 
  • Use your strong communication skills to be a responsive team player who can confidently present your design solutions.
  • We’re client driven, so you’ll need to deliver great result in (sometimes) tight timelines.

Requirements:

  • Graduate from an accredited Mechanical Engineering program (or related field)
  • 2+ years of experience in product development and design for manufacturing using a variety of materials/processes such as sheet metal fabrication, injection molded plastics, millwork, vacuum forming, and blow molding.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling and producing 2D technical drawings for production.

Assets:

  • Experience in the POP/Retail Environment industry.
  • Experience sourcing parts and hardware.
  • Experience with hands-on prototyping.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite.

Production Support - Installations
Reports to Director of Operations

The Production Support - Installations role provides technical support within a production area in which safety, quality, continuous improvement and productivity are supported by performing duties personally and/or through other employees within that process. They will manage change and facilitate communications for problem solving and improvements within the department. The majority of time will be spent on the manufacturing floor providing support to the production teams.

As a member of our Operations Team at Blake Jarrett & Company, the Production Support - Installations will:

  • Conduct themselves in a professional manner.
  • Assist in overseeing the efficient operation of the manufacturing floor, identifying areas for improvement and implementing these improvements.
  • Works with Dir. Of Operations and Supervisor to ensure production schedules are met.
  • Ensure the safety and productivity of all employees assigned to them.
  • Cross train, and be able to train Associates and Agency staff in all functions and equipment and guide improvement.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and have a bias for continuous process improvements.
  • Participates and leads in all company safety initiatives.
  • Enforce all safety and processing procedures.
  • Perform repairs/installations at client sites within the GTA.

Skills:

The successful candidate will have a high standard for safety and quality and in addition will possess:

  • Must have experience leading others and proven ability to communicate effectively with all departments, team members, management and other support personnel.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude (Ability to read engineering drawings, use of hand/power tools, etc).
  • Electronic Aptitude (Tablets, Cell Phones, etc).
  • Must have valid driver’s license with the clean driving record and access to a vehicle.

Education:

  • Minimum High School Diploma.

Experience:

  • 2 – 3 years manufacturing experience.

Additional Related Skills:

  • Understanding of Microsoft Office.
